Martina Grifaldo, director of a local NGO, coordinates a network of volunteers who patrol neighborhoods and share live updates with over 171,000 followers on Facebook. The group posts information about where ICE agents have been spotted, allowing residents to avoid those areas.

The increased activity follows a renewed immigration crackdown by federal authorities, which has led to heightened fear among undocumented migrants and even some legal residents. Civil rights groups have criticized the raids, but community members continue to organize and support one another to minimize the risk of detention.

We go out to patrol the streets. We also have a team of volunteers who help us, each one of them goes out at a certain time. She uses Facebook to communicate with her 171,000 followers and shares their intel on the group's page. People write on the post, this side is clear, that side is clean. Agents are here, don't go this way and they let us know what it's like out there. Since US President Donald Trump began his immigration crackdown after returning to power in January, federal authorities have stepped up their detention of undocumented migrants, asylum seekers and in some cases people with Latino features who have US citizenship or permanent residency. The raids have provoked an uproar from civil rights groups, but that hasn't stopped the Trump administration and targeted communities say they live in fear. Every time we go out and check the reports and we see them, we see how they treat our people. We feel terrorised because at any time it could happen to us. Martina and her team say it's one way they can help keep their community safe.
