The children, who entered the country without parents or legal guardians, remain in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which houses them in shelters or foster homes while the case is litigated.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is preparing to escalate immigration enforcement operations, particularly in the Chicago area. Plans include a possible increase in ICE activity and the use of a military installation as a staging area. Local officials, including Chicago's mayor, have reinforced policies limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, but acknowledge limited ability to interfere with federal actions.

And if other cities are on the list for possible ice raids, especially when you consider the ruling from a judge Well, the Trump administration Mugo is certainly trying to escalate its crackdown on illegal immigration to Department of Homeland Security officials tell CBS News that the agency has indeed made internal plans and preparations to Launch a major escalation and increase in immigration enforcement operations in the Chicago area Targeting people who are suspected of being in the country illegally We are told by these sources that that operation could echo the operations that we saw being conducted by Border Patrol and ice Earlier this year in the Los Angeles area that as you know Mugo triggered those massive protests in that region against ice activity We're also told that the Department of Homeland Security has requested from the Department of Defense that a military Installation in Illinois be used as a staging area of sorts for this operation We'll see if that actually materializes in terms of how the local leaders are reacting We know that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced a new executive order that seeks to reinforce in many ways long-standing local policy that local policemen cannot work with ice to Arrest immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally But the bottom line Mugo is that local officials can't really do much to interfere or stop federal immigration enforcement We shall wait and see if and when those troops actually do make it to Chicago Camila Montoya Galvez Thank you so much for your recording
