Microsoft has unveiled five core principles designed to guide the expansion of its data centers across the United States. These principles focus on ensuring that local communities do not face higher electricity prices, minimizing and replenishing water use, creating local jobs, contributing to public services, and investing in community AI training and nonprofits.

The announcement comes amid political scrutiny over the environmental and economic impact of large-scale data centers. Microsoft also stated it will not seek tax breaks from local communities for its infrastructure projects. Company President Brad Smith is in Washington, D.C. to discuss these initiatives.

Breaking news out of D.C. It is involving Microsoft. Let's get straight over to Eamon Javers, who joins us with that news right now. Eamon. Yeah, good morning again, Andrew. Microsoft is out with an announcement this morning of five core principles that will guide the company's data center expansion around the country and in theory, mitigate some of the political blowback that we've seen around water use, power consumption, and quality of life in impacted communities. President Trump, you saw him posting about it on social media last night. The president said, I never want Americans to pay higher electricity bills because of data centers. Therefore, my administration is working with major American technology companies to secure their commitment to the American people. And we will have much to announce in the coming weeks. First up is Microsoft, who my team has been working with and which will make major changes beginning this week to ensure that Americans don't pick up the tab for their power consumption in the form of paying higher utility bills. Now, Microsoft says it's going to abide by five new core principles as it builds out its infrastructure. They say, we'll pay our way to ensure our data centers don't increase your electricity prices. We'll minimize our water use and replenish more of your water than we use. We'll create jobs for your residents. We'll add to the tax base for your local hospitals, schools, parks, and libraries. And we'll strengthen your community by investing in local AI training and nonprofits. And the company says that it's unfair politically and unrealistic for tech companies to ask the public to shoulder added electricity costs for AI. So among other things, the company is committing to not asking for tax breaks from local communities as it builds out its infrastructure. And Microsoft President Brad Smith is in DC today to talk about all this. And I'll be interviewing him exclusively here on CNBC at 10 30 AM guys, back over to you.
