The Matildas are gearing up to face Slovenia in Perth as part of their preparations for the next Asian Cup. This match will be the first under new head coach Jo Montemuro, who is introducing a possession-based style of play aimed at regaining the team's attacking identity. 

The squad has seen changes, with Claire Wheeler withdrawing for personal reasons and Chloe Berryhill and Jessica Nash joining the team. Slovenia, led by coach Sasha Coleman, is also looking to make an impact, emphasizing that the match will be highly competitive rather than just a friendly encounter.

There's still plenty to prove as the Matildas try and make their way into the line-up ahead of next year's Asian Cup and tomorrow night they get their first chance right here in Perth to do exactly that as the Tillys take on Slovenia and they're going to be playing a new style of play under head coach Jo Montemuro. I guess you'll be seeing us more with the ball, you know, controlling the game, a lot of possession based and also, you know, exciting football which I think this team needs to get back to playing. It's a big game. It's a game that we want to win. It's a game that we want to make sure that we do the right things to get that mentality leading into a big tournament. And there's already been a change in the squad with midfielder Claire Wheeler coming out of the squad due to personal reasons, Western United midfielder Chloe Berryhill and Mariners defender Jessica Nash instead coming into the fold. And there's a big opportunity for Slovenia as well to continue their growth and rise up the rankings under their coach. Sasha Coleman, who did spend some time in Australia as a coach of South Melbourne. Yeah, there's apparently there's no friendly games in football so. Obviously we didn't travel 25 hours just to come and participate and, you know, just be a trash can for them. So as it turns out, there's no such thing as a friendly Slovenia and Australia going head to head in the grudge match tomorrow night as we get our first taste of life under coach Jo Montemuro.
