Police have arrested a man who stole a Woolworths delivery truck after a violent altercation and long pursuit. The burglar attacked the original driver with a stun device and pulled him out of the vehicle.

A Woolworths delivery truck was stolen in Bankstown after the driver was assaulted with a stun device and pulled from the vehicle. The incident led to a police pursuit that began in Rockdale, during which the stolen truck struck four parked cars and continued along major highways. Police eventually stopped the vehicle in Blaxland using road spikes, and the suspect was apprehended after a struggle involving the use of a taser. The truck driver suffered shock and facial injuries but has been released from hospital, while the suspect remains under police guard and faces serious charges. Despite the disruption, the grocery deliveries were transferred to another truck and completed.

The guy was inside kicking and punching at the police and they're punching and kicking and trying to get the guy out. This has been an extremely successful operation and yes, thankfully no one in the public was injured. The 23-year-old had been making his morning deliveries in Bankstown at around 6am when he was hit with a stun device, assaulted and pulled from his truck. The victim of this offence has been thankfully released from hospital after suffering from shock and a number of facial injuries after the use of that stun device. Neighbours shocked to hear of such a violent attack on someone just doing their job. It's obviously scary. It's kind of crazy how people can do that to another person. The pursuit began on the Prince's Highway at Rockdale when the truck failed to stop for police. It then hit four parked cars at Wooleye Creek but continued on. Police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns, however, Pol-Air took over while the truck continued on the M8 and then the M4. Police deployed spikes on the Great Western Highway at Glenbrook before the truck finally stopped at Blacksland. People are getting click-a-licks and not getting anything today, unfortunately. But the food deliveries were quickly transferred to a second truck by lunchtime to get them to their rightful owners. Cars in the path of the reckless driver have crushed bonnets like this one, while the Woolworths truck has a smashed windscreen and flat tyres, but goods mostly intact. The driver remains under police guard in hospital. He's going to be charged with some very, very serious offences. Sarah Navin, 10 News.
