The 41-year-old driver of the Ford sedan sustained only minor injuries, despite the severity of the crash.

The 49-year-old driver of the Holden ute, accused of being drunk, attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by police and a police dog. Local residents noted that Heaslip Road is known for frequent and dangerous crashes. The accused driver has been reported for drink driving and is set to face court at a later date.

If you drive down there, there's a lot of crosses on the side of the road, a lot of flowers. The driver of the ute, accused of being drunk, tried to flee on foot into a nearby bush. Polar and police dog Enzo quickly leapt into action to catch the driver before he could go far. People need to be more responsible for the lives they're dealing with and children's lives too. The driver of the Holden ute, a 49-year-old, was reported for drink driving. He's set to face court at a later date. Don't point taking any risks, I don't think. Marla Summer, 10 News.
