A 41-year-old man has been arrested following a series of alleged assaults at Central Station in Sydney. Police are investigating whether there may be additional victims and have urged witnesses to come forward.

A 41-year-old man, Nicholas Teplin, was arrested after allegedly assaulting at least three people at Central Station in Sydney. Police report that Teplin began by punching a man in the face, knocking him to the ground, and continued to attack others, including an attempted theft. The victims are believed to have no connection to Teplin, and the attacks appear to have been random.

Teplin was combative with police during his arrest and in custody, reportedly pushing a constable. He was also involved in a separate incident at the domestic terminal, where his arrest escalated and a gunshot was fired. Teplin was granted bail after the airport incident, but police recommended against it following the Central Station events. He has been taken for a mental health assessment, and police are appealing for further witnesses or victims to come forward.

It started when he allegedly punched a 45-year-old man in the face so hard it knocked him to the ground and gave him a bloody nose. For that individual involved, that's a frightening event to occur as you're passing through the train station. Police say he then continued through the station, attacking a different man, punching him in the head, before allegedly trying to steal from another. Police don't believe the three men hurt have any links to Teplin. From what I understand, he was just a commuter, obviously travelling to or from work or to or from home and it was just a random attack. However, the violence didn't stop there. He was combative with police at the scene. He had to be physically restrained and handcuffed and his behaviour, unfortunately, continued whilst he was in custody and at one point has pushed a male constable in the chest. On Wednesday, Teplin was involved in a dramatic tackdown at the domestic terminal. Federal police say the 41-year-old became physically and verbally aggressive, his arrest quickly turning into a scuffle before a single gunshot rang out. He was arrested but granted bail. Questions now being raised over whether he should have been let out. New South Wales Police recommended against bail. Bail was not given as a result of the second alleged offences. In relation to the AFP's determination, I can't speak to it. Teplin appeared in court today and entered no plea, however, has been taken away for a mental health assessment. Police fear this may not have been one of the only three alleged attacks by Teplin, so they're urging anyone in the community who may have been witness or subject to an assault to get in touch with them.
