The government stated that the situation is under control and urged the public to remain calm. The arrests come amid ongoing political tension, following the extension of army leader Assimi Goita's rule and the dissolution of political parties, despite previous commitments to return to civilian governance.

It followed rumors in recent days of arrests of Malian army officers accused of a plot against the junta. Generals Abbas Dembele and Nema Sagara are among those in army detention. The transitional government informs the national public of the arrest of a small group of marginal elements from the Malian armed and security forces for criminal offenses aimed at destabilizing the institutions of the republic. This comes at a time when the Malian nation, united in all its components, is mobilized to consolidate our regained sovereignty. These military personnel and civilians had no other ambitions than to seek, with the help of foreign states, to disrupt the momentum of Mali's rebuilding. One of the suspects is a Frenchman whom Mali's security minister said without evidence was acting on behalf of French intelligence. The transitional government also reassures the public that the situation is completely under control and invites the population to remain calm while staying vigilant against desperate attempts at destabilization, which will always fail, God willing. In June, Mali's army leader Assimi Goita was granted an additional five years in power, despite the junta's earlier promises of a return to civilian rule by March 2024. The move followed the military's dissolution of political parties in May.
