What will be Tropical Storm Lorena is forecast to make landfall along Baja California later this week. However, the storm’s moisture and spin could lift into the Desert Southwest, bringing locally heavy rain to parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Moisture streaming in from the Eastern Pacific is expected to bring rainfall to the southwestern United States. The region has experienced increased convective activity due to warm ocean temperatures, and the current weather pattern is being influenced by Tropical Depression 12E. 

Forecast models indicate that if the flow continues, additional storms could develop, potentially leading to more widespread rain over the weekend and into early next week. The next named storm on the list is Lorena, which could further impact the area if it develops as predicted.

We've got a lot of moisture stemming in or streaming in from. You know the Eastern Pacific. You know the Eastern Pacific has been very hot, right? And you just take a look at a lot of the convectiveness that comes around. Tropical depression. Excuse me, 12 E and a lot of that on the north side of this could maybe funnel up the Sea of Cortez, working its way all the way up into the desert southwest, which would be very nice and beneficial, especially if we can keep that going. That's obviously happening right now. After this, does it turn off for a little bit? Potentially, but again, the East Pack has been fire lately, so we're already on the name Kiko. And of course, this next up on the list would be Lorena as we watch that unfold. So the trajectory of this kind of gives you an idea of why we're seeing moisture around the Southwest, and including over the next several days. As you can take a look at the overall flow, if that flow were to turn back in towards the Southwest, like the models indicate, maybe we get even additional storm coverage throughout this weekend or early next week, so that is something that we will as we head into the long term.
