I'm gonna set the scene There is a young woman alone at her isolated cabin in the woods preparing for a big storm She sees a face in the window and then a flashlight beam goes on in her shed And then the lights and the power all go out. No phone lines. You lost me with a woman alone in Known for her twisty plots. She's also the author of the housemaid the trailer for that just dropped. It looks amazing So I am sitting in a bar watching a Mariners game. This is the one you threw the opening pitch for It is a good game and I'm sitting there reading my book I Cannot look up from the book and it is just that good. You will not be able to put it down It goes on sale tomorrow and it's part of Kindle Unlimited. So if you're a member you can read it starting tomorrow. Does she live? All right, so everyone everyone is a good haunted house Next one is about just that with a fresh spin play nice by Rachel Harrison. I love this book I love the jacket too So this is a fresh spin on the haunted house novel where three sisters inherit their childhood home that was Possessed by a demon when they were growing up and so they're not super excited But the youngest daughter decides she's going to take this on as a project She's a social media influencer and she's gonna record it all she gets there and it's very clear The demon still lives there and he wants to play with her So This author does a classic horror trope so like haunted houses witches and then with a sort of modern spin like sibling dynamics social media Influencer, it's a lot of fun. It's scary, but not too scary. So this next one is called girl dinner You call it delicious. It sounds fun. It is delicious So the tagline of this book is good girls deserve a treat, which I love. This is a dark satire It has feminist themes of domesticity motherhood and female rage and it sounds serious, but it's not it's actually very funny It's sort of like if you cross the movie heathers with your favorite revenge film. This is what you get Now you did a book club selection for October. Yes, the book of guilt. I love this book This is not like classic scary. This is more like apocalyptic Lee or psychologically scary So the year is 1979 in England and this is an alternate reality Where no one won World War two and there's a set of three-boy triplets living in an orphanage They're the only children there and something's not quite right They are medicated every day for a mysterious illness and their caretakers are called mother morning mother afternoon and mother evening It's just like sends a chill down my spine Yeah, and there's a girl living nearby who they've never met and somehow she keeps appearing in their dreams. Okay, we're younger readers Jasper rabbit, I'm not gonna play favorites But this one is my favorite Jasper rabbits creepy tales troubling tonsils So I told my kids that I was going to talk about scary books Uh-huh, and my six-year-old Jamie said you got to talk about the tonsils book mom. So this is Jamie's pick So Jasper rabbit is a character from picture books. There are three of them One of them is called creepy underwear, which is my favorite one And this is now a chapter book and he's Jasper rabbit sort of like the masterpiece theater host of this book The main character is Charlie Marmot He's going to get his tonsils out and he's super excited to put them in a jar and take them to school But something very creepy happens before he's going to take them to school. This is appropriate for all ages. It's funny It says the intro says you're gonna pee your pants Hopefully not I hope Jamie's watching cuz he could say mom pick my book. That's so nice Sarah.
