Local pizza restaurants around Salt Lake City are basking in a sales boost from Dave Portnoy's weekend visit.

Several Salt Lake City pizza restaurants have reported a notable rise in sales after being visited by Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports and host of the widely-followed 'one-bite' pizza review series. Portnoy reviewed The Pie Pizzeria near the University of Utah, giving it a 6.9 out of 10, which led to increased customer interest, particularly in the thin cheese pie he sampled.

Bellagio Pizzeria in South Salt Lake also saw a substantial boost, with owner Ricky Rondinelli noting a 30-40% increase in sales and nearly running out of dough due to heightened demand. While Portnoy's review for Bellagio has not yet been released, customers have already begun sharing their own positive feedback.

We've been in a pizza establishment well-known in the city for 45 years, so right next to campus, right where he's going to be, so we figured he would end up stopping by. And that's just what happened. Ahead of Saturday's game that pitted the University of Utah against Texas Tech, Dave Portnoy, a member of the Fox Big Noon kickoff show, and the founder of Barstool Sports, showed up at the Pie Pizzeria takeout and delivery location for another one of his extremely popular one-bite pizza reviews. For a campus pizza spot, I think it's pretty good. And Portnoy isn't talking to himself. He has 18.2 million followers across social media platforms. On a scale of 1 to 10, he gave the pie a rating of 6.9. Any review from Dave is a good review. You want someone like Dave in your store from the amount of followers he has. And here it is, the same pie that Dave reviewed that has caused a sudden uptick in business. Though Brennan Davis couldn't put a hard number on the surge in sales, he says since Thursday's review, his staff has been working nonstop to keep up with demand. But Portnoy's review didn't come without some confusion. When I saw the video, I didn't realize that they had a thin pizza on there, so I was like, I've never seen a pie pizza look like that. Turns out the same thin cheese pie Portnoy reviewed has been on the menu for a long time. Dave is saying apparently a lot of customers never noticed. Lots of people want the Portnoy special, which is something we've always really done. Portnoy also paid the Bellagio Pizzeria in South Salt Lake a visit. And knowing Dave's reach, owner Ricky Rondinelli immediately posted a picture of the two of them on social media. We've been selling almost 300-400 pies a day the past couple of days that we're running out of dough. He probably gave us an extra 30%, 30-40% on top of what we do. And that bump in business comes with the restaurant's rating still a mystery since Portnoy has yet to release his review. That said, some customers are beating him to the punch. That's good pizza. It's got the New York style. I like it. I think I would give it a 9.1. Not quite perfection, but close.
