Lando Norris, aged 26, has won his first Formula One world championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, becoming the 11th British driver to achieve this feat. Norris, who began karting at age 8 and debuted in F1 with McLaren in 2019, has now accumulated 11 race wins, with his first coming at the Miami Grand Prix last year.

By clinching this year's championship, Norris prevented Max Verstappen from claiming a fifth consecutive title and helped McLaren secure both the drivers' and constructors' championships for the first time since 1998. Norris expressed gratitude to his main competitors and highlighted the significance of the season for himself and his team.

At the age of 26, he's become Britain's 11th Formula One world champion. Born in Bristol, Lando Norris' interest in racing was peaked at the age of 7 after a visit to the British Kart Championship. Soon after he began karting and was participating in national championships from the age of 8. It wasn't long before he started making the podium. Lando just pipped from second on the last lap. After winning the European Championship in 2013, Norris became the youngest winner of the World Karting Championship the following year. He made the transition to single-seater racing in 2015 and two years later McLaren had him on their books. Norris made his Formula One debut with McLaren in 2019 after completing McLaren's Young Driver programme. The first of his 11 Formula One race wins came at the Miami Grand Prix last year when he finished second overall. During his time on the track, he's forged a solid friendship with Red Bull's four-time world champion Max Verstappen, who he thanked following Sunday's race. I mean, it feels amazing, you know, yeah, I now know what Max feels like a little bit and I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors the whole season. It's been a pleasure to race against both of them. It's been an honour. I've learned a lot from both of them as well, so I've enjoyed it. It's been a long year, but we did it. We did it and I'm so proud of everyone. By winning this year's Formula One championship, Norris has denied Verstappen of a fifth consecutive title. It also marks McLaren's first drivers' and constructors' title double since 1998.
