A 66-year-old Lakemba man has appeared in court accused of orchestrating 16 car crashes in order to make fraudulent insurance claims.

Nadeem Ahmed, a 66-year-old man from Lakemba, has appeared in Bankstown local court, accused of staging 16 car crashes and making fraudulent insurance claims. Police allege that between 2019 and 2022, Ahmed used fake identities to obtain third-party insurance on vehicles, deliberately caused collisions, and then claimed damages, profiting an estimated $390,000.

Authorities say most vehicles involved were registered to Ahmed or his wife, and that he attempted to gain an additional $74,000 through the scheme. Ahmed has been charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage. He was granted reduced bail conditions, and the case is set to return to court.

He is alleged to have staged 16 collisions involving 45 vehicles, all within the Canterbury Bankstown area between 2019 and 2022. Police say he created fake identities to obtain third-party insurance on vehicles and then deliberately collided with parked cars and made claims. The total amount he is alleged to have profited is $390,000 in insurance payouts. Police allege most of the vehicles were registered to Ahmed or his wife, but he used false names in claims for damages. Did you create fake identities? In Bankstown local court today, Ahmed was successful in reducing the days he has to report on bail and removing his curfew. There will be no comment guys, thank you.
