Kyiv residents are facing harsh winter conditions after overnight Russian strikes damaged critical infrastructure, cutting off power, water, and heating to large parts of the city. Many, including elderly residents, have resorted to melting snow for water and using gas canisters for cooking as they struggle to stay warm.

The attacks resulted in at least four deaths and left about half of Kyiv's apartment blocks without heating. While officials reported that power was being restored in some areas, the overall situation remains challenging for the city's population.

About five civilians were injured. Over in Kiev, many residents are battling the cold after a salvo of overnight Russian strikes into the small hours of Friday knocked out power, water and heat. This is the case for 85-year-old Serhii, who has no choice but to melt snow in this bucket for water. Before the strike it was good, normal warmth. We had everything. Until they turn the heating back on, I'll have to sleep in my clothing. Some have been forced to choose between eating a hot meal and keeping warm. These little gas canisters, we use them to heat things up. Today we will cook something to eat because we haven't cooked anything for two days already. The strikes claimed at least four lives in Kiev and left around half of the capital's apartment blocks without heating. On Saturday, officials stated that power was coming back online in parts of the city but that the situation was still difficult.
