The event, first launched in 2015, continues the cultural mission that followed Ukraine's Maidan movement and the subsequent conflict with Russia.

This year's exhibition, titled 'Near East, Far West,' features works from artists across Europe and the Middle East, highlighting perseverance and the pursuit of a better future. The show includes large video installations and monumental objects that encourage reflection rather than depicting war directly. Among the featured artists is Aykan Safoğlu, whose work references the migration history between Turkey and Germany. The exhibition is open to the public until January 18th.

It was a very important political moment, when a new historical era began, which was repressed and stopped by the war between Russia and Ukraine, because immediately after the Maidan, the occupation of Crimea began. So our mission was to continue the Maidan in the field of culture. This year's show, titled Near East, Far West, features works by artists from European and Middle Eastern cities. All of the works share a common thread, that of perseverance through hardship and rising to a better future. It's an exhibition that tries to show us not only the traumatic images of war in the region, but also tries to reveal the systemic violence, which makes these wars, this violence, still unpunished and still possible. The exhibition is also very spectacular. These are huge video installations, films, large monumental objects. It's very pleasant to watch. It doesn't evoke images of war. It rather makes you think. Among these works are those of Turkish-German artist Aykan Safoğlu. The image that we see on the mosaic is stemming from Istanbul, from a terminus train station, Sirkeci istasyonu, Sirkeci station, which used to be the final destination of Orient Express, and also where a lot of labor migrants departed from Turkey for their future lives in Germany. The image is the one-to-one reproduction of the rose window of the waiting hall of Sirkeci station. So this is the final thing actually that people had seen on their way to Germany. The exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art will be open until January 18th. Thank you.
