Reigning champion Perez Jepcheche finished second in the women's race, trailing Jepkozge by 43 seconds. The event further highlighted Kenya's dominance in long-distance running on the international stage.

The Spanish course is known for being very fast, and both winners broke their own personal records. In the women's race, Jepkozge finished in 2 hours and 14 minutes, making it the fastest women's marathon of the year, and the 4th fastest time ever. Reigning champion Perez Jepcheche came second, just 43 seconds behind her compatriot.
