During a three-week pretrial hearing, prosecutors called nearly 20 witnesses, while the defense did not call any. The defense seeks to exclude a gun and notebook seized during Mangione's arrest in Pennsylvania, arguing that proper protocols were not followed. The pretrial hearing concerns only the state case, and Mangione has pleaded not guilty to both state and federal murder charges.

To this now, some breaking news at noon, a judge says he will rule in May on what evidence prosecutors can use in Luigi Mangione's murder trial. Mangione is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown last year. Prosecutors rested their case today after calling nearly 20 witnesses over three weeks of a pretrial hearing. Mangione's defense team did not call any witnesses. They want to exclude a gun and notebook seized during his arrest in Pennsylvania and claim investigators did not follow proper protocols. Prosecutors say the search was legal. We were told this was going to be several days, but this went on for three weeks unnecessarily and lots of witnesses were called. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to state and federal murder charges. The pretrial hearing applies only to the state case.
