The Olympic flame for the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Games has commenced its relay from Rome, beginning a 12,000-kilometre journey across Italy. The relay will pass through all 110 Italian provinces and conclude at Milan's San Siro Stadium for the opening ceremony scheduled for 6 February.

Notable athletes, including Olympic champions Gregorio Baldinieri, Elisa Di Francesca, and Gianmarco Tamberi, participated in the initial handoffs. The event will feature 60 city celebrations, with stops in Naples for Christmas and Bari for New Year's Eve, and will involve more than 10,000 torchbearers.

The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Flame has begun its journey, setting off from Rome on Saturday on a relay across Italy. The trek covers 12,000 kilometres, winding its way through all 110 Italian provinces, before reaching Milan's San Siro Stadium for the opening ceremony on 6 February. Olympic swimming champion Gregorio Baldinieri handed off to retired fencer Elisa Di Francesca, a two-time gold medalist at the 2012 London Games. She then passed it on to Gianmarco Tamberi, the 2020 Olympic high jump champion. The torch relay, which includes 60 city celebrations, will be in Naples for Christmas and Bari for New Year's Eve. In all, there will be over 10,000 torchbearers.
