Five Jewish teenagers were targeted in an antisemitic attack in St Kilda East, Melbourne, when two suspects in a stolen ute hurled abuse, stalked, and intimidated them. CCTV footage shows the suspects driving at the boys, nearly hitting one, and performing Nazi salutes just 100 metres from a synagogue previously attacked in 2024.

The incident has led to condemnation from the Prime Minister and calls for increased security around Jewish institutions. Victoria's Premier, Jacinta Allen, has announced intentions to strengthen anti-hate legislation in response to the attack.

Jewish teenagers have had to run for their lives after two suspects hurled anti-semitic abuse from a ute in Melbourne. The five schoolboys were forced to hide as they were stalked and intimidated. Rebecca Powell is in Melbourne for us tonight. Bec, there are calls for more to be done to protect the Jewish community. Ursula, this latest incident has sparked condemnation at the highest levels including from the Prime Minister and it's intensified calls for visible protection around Jewish schools and places of worship. The attack unfolded around 10 last night in St. Kilda East. In this CCTV, the five boys on their way home could be seen waiting to cross the road before starting to back away as the white ute pulls up. The car is then seen making a quick u-turn before driving at them, almost mowing down one of the boys. The incident occurred just 100 metres from the Adas Israel Synagogue which was firebombed in 2024. They were shouting anti-semitic slogans, did a Nazi hail Hitler salute and the children were fearful of their lives. Now, officers say the car was stolen at the weekend and has been involved in several other incidents. Meantime, the Premier Jacinta Allen says she'll seek to toughen the state's anti-hate laws when Parliament returns next month.
