Israeli forces have carried out several attacks on what they say are "Hezbollah targets" in eastern Lebanon. Residents in the village of Sahmar were told to leave their homes just one hour before the strikes.

The Lebanese army has completed the first phase of its plan south of the Litani River but has not yet provided a timeline for the next phase, which will address areas north of the river. Hezbollah has stated it will not cooperate with disarmament efforts, warning of potential chaos, while the United States has urged the Lebanese government to proceed quickly with the disarmament process.

Lebanon's army did not present a timeline for the second phase of its plan that is supposed to cover an area north of the Litani River. It is supposed to present it to the government in early February. Army sources say political efforts must coincide with phase two because it could be obstructed if Hezbollah does not cooperate. Hezbollah has said it won't. On Wednesday, a senior official reiterated a warning to the government, saying that if it pushes ahead with its disarmament efforts, it could lead to chaos and civil war. But the U.S. has warned the second phase must move quickly, its ambassador adding that the disarmament deadline is the top priority.
