The United Nations estimates that around a million people remain in Gaza City, many of whom are living in tents and face severe shortages, with the UN having declared a famine in the area the previous month. International criticism is mounting, with the UN's top human rights official accusing Israel of mass killings of Palestinian civilians and widespread destruction. Despite the evacuation order, many residents report having nowhere safe to go.

The military is targeting some high-rise buildings which they accuse Hamas of using. They are doing all this to displace us. We are afraid to move. We can't move. There's no place for us in the south. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his forces had destroyed 50 towers so far as Israel prepares to take Gaza City in a ground offensive. And this is why I say to the residents of Gaza, take this opportunity, listen carefully, you have been warned, leave now. The UN estimates a million people remain in Gaza City. It declared a famine there last month. Many people are still living in tents crammed between Gaza City and the sea. International condemnation is growing. The UN's top human rights official accused Israel of the mass killings of Palestinian civilians and wholesale destruction. But in Gaza, people pack up the possessions they can still transport and are driving south in the hope that they can escape the widening Israeli offensive.
