As more Australians return to the office either part or full time, physiotherapists are reporting an increase in patients presenting with back issues. Now, thanks to a new mobile physiotherapy offering from WiSE Medical, some businesses are giving their employees the chance to get treated in the office during their work day.

In-office physiotherapy sessions are being offered to busy city workers as they return to their desks. According to physiotherapists like Rhys Jones, the number of patients presenting with back issues has increased. Contributing factors include poor ergonomic choices, such as chair, mouse, and keyboard selection, as well as the positioning of computer monitors.

In response to these challenges, WiSE Medical is trialling a new mobile physiotherapy service in Sydney's Barangaroo precinct. This service allows physiotherapists to visit offices and treat employees during their workday. Dr. Pankaj Arora, founder of WiSE Medical, emphasises the importance of convenience and accessibility in healthcare, especially for those with busy schedules.

WiSE Medical's new service is part of a broader effort to provide comprehensive health support to city workers. In addition to physiotherapy, WiSE Medical offers mobile pathology collection and telehealth services, allowing employees to access healthcare without leaving the office. Dr. Arora believes that making healthcare accessible and convenient can improve employee productivity and overall workplace satisfaction.

In the tallest towers of our biggest cities, hundreds of thousands of Australians spend at least some of their week working in our CBDs. And with more and more city workers now returning to the office, physiotherapists like Rhys Jones are seeing an increase in patients presenting with back issues. The patients that we see in the city here, they're sitting at a desk way too long. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, an estimated 4 million Australians live with back problems, with more than $3.4 billion spent on treatment every year. It could be due to poor ergonomic choices, so it could be due to their chair choice, their mouse choice, their keyboard choice, or even where their monitor is positioned. Now here in Sydney's busy Barangaroo precinct, a new type of physiotherapy offering is being trialled, specifically tailored to busy office workers. We're actually trying to get out to people's offices. People are time poor with their work and so if we can get in during their lunch break or their morning tea for half an hour to have their problem looked at and treated, then that's much more helpful for our patients. These city-based mobile physios are the latest health professionals to join the growing team at Wise Medical. So we're trying to go to the root cause of the problem here. Dr Pankaj Arora is founder of Wise, which in addition to its new physiotherapy offering, operates two flagship walk-in specialist emergency clinics in Sydney's Macquarie Park and on the Gold Coast. It's all about convenience, accessibility in a complicated health system. So we went a step ahead with our Wise physiotherapy business to bring all allied health together. It's not just physiotherapy, it's the other services which come along with it as well. Among the additional services now on offer to city workers, a mobile pathology collection team. If we're having any issues with our patients that we're concerned about, we can refer them on site and have a blood test, which gives us more information to look after these patients. We also offer telehealth so we can do sessions over Zoom or over FaceTime as well. So we do try to make it as easy as possible for our corporate workers. With an estimated 12% of Australia's economic activity coming from the work done in big office blocks like these, doctors like Pankaj Arora say the country's big bosses are increasingly realising that convenient healthcare is also good for business. It is very important for an owner of a business to make sure that their productivity is maintained through a happy, healthy staff.
