But expect no such hostilities when Donald Trump welcomes his latest guest, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The pair, seen here in the Oval Office during Trump's first term in 2019, a staunch confidants. Orban has also made a number of trips to visit the US president at his Florida home. While Friday's meeting is expected to be an exhibition of their political bromance, there are some contentious items on the agenda. Orban says he hopes to seek concessions on sanctions that the US has imposed on countries buying Russian energy. In Hungary, we rely on certain energy transport routes. The Americans may not be familiar with this strange situation. We must make them understand these difficulties if we want exceptions from US sanctions on Russian energy. The Ukraine war is also likely to be discussed. Orban is among Europe's most pro-Putin leaders and a thorn in the side of President Zelensky, as probably the most high-profile and vocal opponent of Ukraine's bid to join the EU. Unlike most European leaders, Orban has taken a combative stance against Ukraine throughout the war, including in a radio interview just last week. In my opinion, the first and most important declaration is that whoever supports Ukraine supports the war, so whoever supports Ukraine today supports a Ukraine that wants to wage a war and supports the war itself. Orban was set to host Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Hungary for peace talks, until the meeting was abruptly cancelled just days later when negotiations stalled.
