Nearly four years into Russia's invasion, Novopost is still operating through blackouts, missile strikes and damaged transport links. The Ukrainian company says it now delivers more than 1.5 million parcels a day, a rare wartime success outside the defence sector. Ihor Shatovsky manages one of Novopost's branches. The branch is equipped with power generator. If the power goes out or we have a blackout, we have a generator and a Starlink. Even if there is no internet in the city, we connect to the Starlink and work. We always work. Founded in 2001, Novopost disrupted Ukraine's postal market with faster deliveries, challenging the state-owned operator UkPoshta. Today it moves parcels from Ukraine's western borders to frontline adjacent cities. It also delivers to Ukrainians who fled abroad across Europe. Hanna Honka is a regional manager. Our processes have changed. We became more mobile, more active. We are changing our processes, adapting to blackouts, to wartime. Everything is just different. But operating during war comes with a cost. Novopost lost 249 employees, including 227 who were drafted and killed in combat. Some of its facilities, especially in Kharkiv, were completely destroyed. And when air raid sirens sound in Chernihiv, staff are directed into concrete shelters, then returned to the counter minutes later to keep parcels moving. The company recently closed its last branches in the besieged city of Pokrovsk. Still, it continues deliveries to frontline locations, including the southern city of Kherson. Once focused on Ukraine and Moldova, Novopost now operates in 16 countries and plans further expansion in Europe, with more deliveries to the US, China and beyond.
