The highest number of healthy life years for men was recorded in Malta, Italy, and Sweden, while Latvia, Estonia, and Slovakia reported the lowest. Among women, Malta, Bulgaria, and Italy led in healthy life expectancy, with the lowest figures in Latvia, Denmark, and Finland. 

Overall life expectancy in the EU is 84 years for women and nearly 79 for men, indicating that a significant portion of life is spent with activity limitations. Men generally spend a greater share of their lives without such limitations compared to women. The data also reveals that in most EU countries, women have a slightly higher healthy life expectancy than men, though the differences are generally small and influenced by subjective perceptions of health.

Despite the difference between the sexes generally being small, women in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia had more than three years of a healthier life than men. On the other hand, the Netherlands is the only EU country where the gap in favour of men exceeds three years. These figures are subjective to a certain extent as they depend on respondents' perception of health as well as their social and cultural backgrounds.
