A major winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall to the Midwest, with snow beginning in Omaha and spreading eastward. Temperatures have dropped significantly, and winter storm warnings are in effect as the system expands from the northern plains.

Snowfall is expected to intensify, especially in Iowa, northern Illinois, and southern Wisconsin, with 6 to 12 inches possible from Des Moines to central Michigan. Chicago could experience one of its top five November snowstorms if six inches fall, while Detroit is forecast to receive less than its November record.

It's a warm front that's gonna be producing some widespread light to moderate snow initially, but the snow picks up moderate to heavy for a time tomorrow, Saturday afternoon, Iowa, northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin. The deep blues on your screen there. That's where the snowfall rates will be heaviest. Indianapolis and points northward. We're gonna be into it there. High impact snow. Detroit will see a few inches as well. So let's take a look at the storm snapshot here for Saturday. There it is pretty widespread Omaha all the way up into places like Michigan and 6 to 12 inches of snow, likely from Des Moines into areas of central Michigan. Quick look at Chicago's five greatest November snowstorms in history. We get to six inches that would make the list and a quick look at Detroit. Now we're probably not gonna touch these numbers were forecasting a bit less, but 9.2 inches is the record holder for November.
