Grey Bull Rescue, a not-for-profit organization based in Tampa, is leading efforts to evacuate nearly 400 Americans from Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa made landfall. The group has organized several flights, with the first carrying 170 people back to Florida, and is also delivering a trailer full of donated supplies to those affected by the hurricane.

The rescue operation is supported by donations from the Tampa Bay community, including assistance from a local car dealership. Grey Bull Rescue, which has experience in international disaster relief, plans to continue its mission with additional flights and ongoing aid for both Americans and local residents in Jamaica.

Days after Hurricane Melissa roared ashore in Jamaica, relief groups in Tampa are now stepping up to help those survivors. They know all too well what it's like to go through a devastating hurricane, especially after what we all went through last year. One group's rescuing nearly 400 Americans tonight, but they're not stopping there. They plan to bring supplies to the people on the ground as well. FOX 13's Danielle Zluchowski is live tonight at Tampa International Airport, where about 170 Americans are about to return to Florida. And Danielle, apparently that's the first of several flights, right? What more do we know? Well, that is the first of several flights. It's going to have 170 people on it, like you said. They are working to get them out of Jamaica right now, and they hope to be back on the ground here in the States by midnight. Now, this is a not-for-profit group called Gray Bull Rescue, and they do all of this work based solely on donations alone, because they are not-for-profit. They've done this work before. Israel, Ukraine, Haiti, they got people out of danger there in all of those situations. Now, they helped the people get to the airport on a bus in Kingston, but they're not stopping there. The group collected a trailer full of supplies that they're donating to those in Jamaica. They got these supplies as donations from people across the Tampa Bay community. What we like to do is get the Americans to safety first, as quickly as possible, because we don't want them stuck there. They're already strained on resources, so we want to make sure they're safe and out of the way, and then we'll go back and help people who are locals and that live there with everything that they need. Anything to help the families from the disaster that the hurricane in Jamaica, so just really just helping out the community right now. The Genesis car dealership in Tampa helped to collect the supplies today. If you're interested in donating, they're still taking supplies at their dealership. And this rescue mission's not over. Another flight's set to come in in the early hours of Saturday morning with about 170 additional stranded Americans on it. Danielle Zolkowski, FOX 13 News.
