As a result, air travel nationwide is being affected, as air traffic controllers are required to work without pay, leading to increased sick calls and staffing shortages.

These shortages have caused delays at several major airports, including Newark, Denver, and Phoenix. In some cases, such as at Burbank Airport, control tower operations have been temporarily managed by teams from other locations. Political leaders continue to blame each other for the stalemate, while the Senate has repeatedly failed to pass measures to end the shutdown.

President Trump is now calling on Democrats to reopen the government, but Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says it's up to the president and Republicans to end the shutdown. Yesterday, the Senate failed for a fifth time to pass spending measures that would reopen the government.
