The group has lodged a 4-1 application with police to demonstrate on Sunday, but the Premier has already indicated that protest will be blocked. In a statement he said, unplanned disruption risks not only significant inconvenience but real public safety concerns, adding we cannot allow Sydney to descend into chaos. The Executive Council of Australian Jewry also strongly opposes the protest. This is the lifeblood of our city when on the weekend families try to make their way to and from North Sydney. There are plenty of other venues where the protesters can march, can have stationary protests. That's what they should be doing and absolutely they should not be taking over the Harbour Bridge. Shutting down the bridge isn't unheard of. 250,000 crossed the coat hanger in 2000 for the Walk for Reconciliation. In 2023 it was closed for World Pride March. Then there was the time Ryan Gosling's Star Power brought traffic to a standstill for the filming of a Hollywood blockbuster. All we're calling for is for the right for the people of New South Wales to be able to march over our own bridge, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, to express our views on this matter.
