A recent increase in the number of migrants from Africa and the Middle East attempting to enter Poland has sparked concerns in neighbouring Germany – causing some to call for a reintroduction of controls along the countries' shared border.

Migrants still have a fresh Russian visa. We have information from the Lithuanian side that many people who illegally crossed the border from Belarus were in open centres for foreigners. This year, we have stopped two times more migrants than a year ago at the same time. There are also many more migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border. There are many more such interventions in the spring. Our group has had four such interventions in the last 24 hours. We can also see the increased brutality from the border guards, which are the result of the increased number of assaults and acts of violence against refugees. Migrants try to jump over the wall that stands on the border, or choose more difficult, dangerous routes through rivers and swamps. They are crossing the border on foot. They stay in the Polish forest in harsh conditions for days at a time. Despite the wall that Poland has built along the border, the migrant route through Russia and Belarus is still operational.
