The findings from the examination of the bodies suggest signs of summary executions and torture. Some of the deceased were identified as patients who were receiving treatment at the time of their death, as indicated by medical equipment still attached to their bodies. Furthermore, around 10 individuals were discovered with their hands bound, raising concerns of possible executions. There is also an ongoing investigation into around 20 bodies to determine if they were buried alive. Calls for an independent investigation to verify these findings have been made.

The Israeli military has refuted claims of their forces burying bodies prior to withdrawing from the area, labeling such accusations as baseless. Following the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza's main hospitals, Civil Defense teams discovered dozens of corpses in mass graves at the al-Shifa Medical Center in Gaza City and a total of 392 bodies across three different sites on the grounds of the Nasser Hospital. Over half of these bodies remain unidentified, causing distress and anguish among families searching for their loved ones.

The international response to these discoveries has been significant, with the United States joining the European Union and the United Nations in calling for Israel to provide an explanation for these deeply disturbing findings.
