Israel steps up airstrikes on Rafah ahead of ground operation
Israel has escalated its airstrike campaign on Rafah, signaling a prelude to a planned ground operation in the southern Gaza city. Observers note the Palestinian population has begun evacuating in anticipation of the offensive. Despite international warnings about the potential for mass casualties, Israel's government remains committed to proceeding with its military initiative aimed at targeting Hamas within Rafah. Confirmed by the Israeli government, a ground assault on Rafah is considered imminent. The operation's objective is to dismantle the remaining Hamas battalions situated in the city. Israel has expressed its intention to mitigate civilian casualties by facilitating evacuations, much like its previous operations.
