Mohammad Jadallah is a 65-year-old displaced Ghazan. He sought refuge from Israeli bombardment many times, only to find his troubles continuing in the town of Deir el-Bala. This garbage is causing us health problems, fatigue and diseases. We have no water. There are people next to us who fled because of the garbage. Our calamity, rain, hunger and suffering are enough. Since October 7, Israel has destroyed more than 85% of the civilian infrastructure in Gaza. With around 3,000 tons of waste accumulating daily, the city grapples with insufficient resources for disposal. And people are concerned about living with the terrible smell and the pollution the garbage causes. In addition to the bombing every day and the sound of explosions, there is garbage, bad smells and diseases that have spread among us. Every week there is someone who gets sick, children and the elderly, because of the smell and the garbage. Palestinians have resorted to burning waste, causing air pollution. The mayor of the town is aware of the problem, but unable to offer a solution. We are facing a deficit in the service we provided to citizens before the war. Now the service is reduced and we cannot provide a good service for the people who live here. As Gazans endure constant Israeli bombardment, the breakdown of essential services adds another layer to their struggles. Hila Luzon, TRT World.
