French actor Gérard Depardieu has been ordered to stand trial in Paris on charges of rape and sexual assault. The charges stem from allegations made by actress Charlotte Arnaud, who accused Depardieu of sexual assault and rape during two incidents in 2018. Depardieu, who was 69 at the time, has denied the allegations, claiming the relationship was consensual.

The investigation was initially closed due to insufficient evidence but was later reopened in 2020 at Arnaud's request. Arnaud is among approximately 20 women who have accused Depardieu of inappropriate conduct. Depardieu has publicly denied all allegations. He was previously convicted of sexual assault for groping two women on a film set in 2021 and received an 18-month suspended sentence.

Shortly after, she filed a complaint of rape and sexual assault against him. Now, after a lengthy ordeal, Arnaud's case will finally be heard. The 76-year-old has been ordered to stand trial. Ten years later, seven years of horror and hell. The order restores a form of judicial truth. I think I'm having trouble grasping how huge this is. I'm relieved. Arnaud's lawyer says the judge has ordered Depardieu to the Paris criminal court for sexual assault and rape by digital penetration on two cases in August 2018. Depardieu was 69 at the time of the alleged incidents. He has claimed they had a consensual relationship. In June 2019, the investigation was closed. The evidence deemed insufficient. But Arnaud did not give up. In 2020, she successfully pushed for the investigation to be reopened. She is one of some 20 women who have accused Depardieu of inappropriate conduct. In 2023, Depardieu denied all allegations against him. In a letter published in French media, he wrote, Never ever have I abused a woman. In May this year, he was convicted of sexual assault for groping two women on a film set in 2021. He was given an 18-month suspended sentence.
