A new sailboat service named Bag Hatoop has begun operating between Brittany and the Isle of Groix. The vessel, which uses sails to significantly reduce fuel consumption, offers a crossing that takes about an hour and a half. The company behind Bag Hatoop aims to decarbonise passenger transport, consuming about ten times less fuel than comparable motorised vessels. 

Although the journey is slower and costs slightly more than traditional motorised ferries, passengers are drawn to the environmentally friendly and family-oriented experience. Bag Hatoop is the third company in four years to establish a regular sail link to a Breton island, with 20,000 travellers now choosing sailboat crossings each summer.

It's calmer, more respectful of the environment around us, we can feel the waves, we can feel the sea better, it's more natural. 20,000 travellers are opting for sail links like these every summer now, a tried and tested low-carbon alternative ready to make a comeback.
