There are two systems in the Atlantic that forecasters are closely watching for potential development into tropical storms right after the impacts of Hurricane Erin.

North Carolina

Meteorologists report that Hurricane Erin, the first hurricane of the season, reached category five status and is currently a category two as it moves northeast. As the Atlantic hurricane season approaches its peak, forecasters are now monitoring two additional areas with high potential for storm development.

One area of interest is located east of the current storm, with another region being watched near Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the Turks and Caicos, and the Virgin Islands. Both areas are being tracked for possible development into named storms, with Bermuda already experiencing impacts from Erin and potentially facing further effects from future storms.

And this is just the beginning, Jeff, because Aaron is technically our first hurricane of the season maintained, reached, I should say, category five status. But as you look at the calendar, take a look at this very impressive stuff here. We are right here, August 21st on the calendar. So for hurricanes, we're right about here for named storms. We're right about there. But look what happens here as we go forward in time. You can see that for the number of hurricanes, they really start to ramp up. But for the number of named storms, those really put the pedal to the metal here as we go into the peak of of a hurricane season, which is right around September 10th. So these are going to be the kinds of numbers that we are forecasting for. Climatologically speaking, as we go forward. So this is just the beginning and the beginning was very powerful. So I mentioned earlier how just how impressive Aaron was and how long we've been tracking this. We've been tracking this storm since it developed right off the coast of Africa. And you see this long line that it's taken here so far on its path. And once again, on Sunday, it reached major category five status. And as of right now, still maintaining as a category two hurricane as it continues to make this northeasterly track. But this is just the first hurricane we've had. Whenever it looks to the potential development of our next named storm, we have two areas that we are watching for high development potential on our accurate development potential scale. And you can see one area is going to be for today and tomorrow, August 21st, 22nd. This is going to be this area here off to the east. But as we head into the weekend, we're also going to be watching this area between August 22nd, 23rd. That's Saturday, Sunday. So as we head into the weekend from Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos down to the Virgin Islands, we're going to be watching out for this potential area for more development as we head throughout the weekend. So two areas primarily now to the east, we have one storm that's now starting to move into that area, and that could be the storm that could possibly potentially develop into our next named storm. But the likelihood of that looks like the higher likelihood would be this cluster of storms right here as it moves into this region right here, which is going to be more advantageous. So that's what we're going to be tracking for that. But once again, Bermuda has been seeing bad impacts there from Aaron. But it looks like Bermuda can see some more impacts for this potential future storm that we're going to be tracking as we head throughout the weekend.
