Recent developments, including new allegations against their father and a resentencing to 50 years with parole eligibility, have kept the case in the public eye. Lyle Menendez is set to appear before the parole board separately.

His brother Lyle's case will still get its own review. Cameron McIntosh has kept a close watch on this notorious case. So Cam, what are you hearing about this call? Yeah, the decision coming late tonight from the California Parole Board. Eric Menendez has failed to convince it to recommend him for parole. Now he appeared virtually from prison today. The hearing lasting more than 10 hours. It heard from Menendez himself. It heard from the Los Angeles District Attorney. And also it heard plenty of victim impact statements. Ruling from the California Parole Board is that it couldn't be convinced that Eric Menendez wouldn't pose a unreasonable risk to society. His brother Lyle will appear tomorrow. More than almost 36 years to the day since the brothers killed their parents. We received a call on our 911 emergency line from the residents. The murders date back to August 1989. When their parents Jose and Kitty were found shot dead in their Beverly Hills home. Arrested the next year, the brothers claimed self-defense. Accusing their father, a record executive of emotional and sexual abuse. After a mistrial, they were convicted in 1996. Sentenced to life with no parole. They shot their parents to make it look like a mafia style killing. Shooting their dad in the back of the head. It's time for the world to know the truth. In 2003, a docu-series raised other allegations of molestation against the boy's father. From a member of the Latin boy band Menudo. A Netflix series also returned the case to prominence. I'm going to need you to walk me through what happened. Back in May, they were resentenced to 50 years with a chance at parole. Partially on the new evidence against their father. A judge also cited their efforts at rehabilitation. While their extended family supports their release, LA's district attorney opposes it. Saying they've never taken full responsibility for the killings and attempts to cover them up. If and when the Menendez brothers finally come clean and say that those lies that they've been telling for 35 years are just that, their lies. Then at that point, we believe they'll be qualified for parole. Now the position of the Los Angeles district attorney has always been that the brothers didn't kill their parents out of self-defense. That they killed them for financial reasons. And they argued that again today. In the decision, the commissioner of the board said that Eric has shown progress in rehabilitation. But also has a history of violating prison rules. Including drug smuggling, misuse of computers, cell phone use which is banned. And he has a couple of fights on his record. The commissioner saying it demonstrated an attitude of feeling the rules don't apply to him. He can't apply again for three years. His brother is up tomorrow. Unclear how this bodes for him.
