A court in Finland has sentenced Simon Ekpa, a Finnish citizen of Nigerian origin and leader of the banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra group, to six years in prison. The court found Ekpa guilty of terrorism-related charges, including promoting the independence of Nigeria's Biafra region through illegal means and equipping armed groups with weapons and explosives.

Ekpa, whose group has been linked to violence in southeastern Nigeria, was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud. The court noted that he used social media to stoke tensions. Ekpa has the right to appeal the decision to a higher court.

The judges said he'd also equipped armed groups with weapons and explosives and stoked tensions on social media. Ekpa was also convicted of aggravated tax fraud and can appeal to a higher court.
