CNBC's Seema Mody joins 'Money Movers' with the latest comments from Fedex CEO on tariffs, China, and much more.

FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam, who also chairs the US-China Business Council, shared optimism regarding the future of US-China trade relations, highlighting recent de-escalation and the potential for further progress following a possible meeting between President Trump and President Xi. He noted that businesses are seeking clarity on trade policy, and upcoming communications and meetings could provide much-needed certainty.

Subramaniam also addressed FedEx's integration of artificial intelligence through a new partnership with ServiceNow, aimed at improving data consolidation and procurement processes. He stated that the company is undergoing a significant transformation, including merging two businesses and planning to spin off its freight division, while focusing on innovation and adapting to broader industry trends.

Fedex CEO: Trade narrative with China will improve

The CEO of FedEx speaking to our Arsima Modi on US-China policy and his expectations for tariffs. Arsima joins us this morning with those comments. Hey, Arsima. Hey, Carl. In addition to being the CEO of FedEx, Raj Subramaniam also chairs the US-China Business Council. And he shared with me last night at an Asia Society Pratham event that he's encouraged by the latest trade de-escalation and thinks that a meeting between President Trump and President Xi that may take place next spring sets a table for more progress. Hopefully, that's the floor that's been drawn. And then the announcement of a potential bilateral meeting in Beijing in the spring is helpful. And hopefully, then we move forward from here. I think a lot of, especially the businesses, are looking for some kind of clarity on where things stand. And I think these communications and these meetings will actually provide more of those clarities. Now, China is FedEx's second largest market. And like so many companies, FedEx, too, is being hit by tariffs. But Subramaniam thinks the trade narrative will improve. He doesn't see it getting worse. I think there's a flaw. I think, you know, I think there is some, again, like I said, as we get more certainty, then businesses can plan better. That's what I expect. I don't think it's going to, it's not going to go back to where it was. And that's not going to happen. Now, on artificial intelligence, he detailed how the transportation company is embedding AI with a new ServiceNow partnership that will help consolidate its data and speed up procurement. He didn't see AI fueling job cuts, but that was clearly a technology that every company is trying to figure out how it helps them speed up deliveries, guys. I'm just looking at the stock, Seema. It's down, you know, over the last year or so. Hasn't done a whole lot. Has that, what, is it tied to the FedEx performance or is it, is it the manufacturing rebound that everyone's waiting for, trade? Yeah, you know, probably a couple different things here. Macro environment, the industrial production volumes have also been a little slow across the industry. Listen, this company is in the midst of a big transformation. They're merging two businesses, spinning off freight sometime next year. So this is sort of just a broader story that is in the works there. And we're super money. I'm the second CEO to lead FedEx. So they're really in it right now, trying to innovate while also trying to capitalize on all these growing trends like data center build outs, guys. Okay, Seema, thank you.
