Retailers are now being asked to voluntarily recall the affected cinnamon powder brands to prevent any health risks associated with lead consumption.

The FDA is calling on discount retailers to voluntarily recall ground cinnamon that may contain potentially unsafe levels of lead. The agency is urging consumers to avoid buying the products and to throw away any containers they may have at home. The brand names include La Fiesta brand sold by LA Superior and Super Mercados, Merckem brand sold by Save-A-Lot stores, MK brand sold by SF Supermarket, S.W.A.D. brand sold by Patel Brothers, Supreme Tradition brand sold by Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, and El Chilar brand sold by La Jolla Morlanes. The FDA recommends people who are concerned about lead exposure talk with their health care providers.
