A small plane transporting a medical patient crashed near Galveston, Texas, on Monday afternoon, killing six people, officials say. A father and son who were boating at the time of the crash and helped rescue people told CBS News' Karen Hua about what happened.

Six people died when a medical mission plane from Mexico crashed into Galveston Bay near Houston. Among the victims were a two-year-old burn patient, his doctor, and four members of the Mexican Navy. Two survivors were rescued and are in stable condition at a hospital.

Boat Captain Sky Decker and his 11-year-old son were among the first to reach the scene, where Decker pulled a nurse to safety from the wreckage. Decker, who survived a plane crash as a child, reflected on the experience, while his son expressed pride in his father's actions.

Flight radar shows the plane crossing the gulf, then approaching the Galveston airport before disappearing off radar over the bay. The two year old patient, his doctor and four members of the Mexican Navy died. Decker's son says he's proud of his dad for risking his life to save others.
