Nearby, Maryam Abu Alta is being treated after one of her legs was blown away and another severely injured in an Israeli bombing. First the house next to them was bombed and then their house was hit. The child's leg was blown away. The other leg has metal plates because of a fracture. She suffers greatly from losing her leg. The United Nations says there are more child amputees in Gaza than anywhere else in the world. Local health data shows nearly 5,000 people losing a limb since Israel's war on Gaza began nearly two years ago. Many of them are children. Israel's months-long blockade has stopped life-saving medical supplies into Gaza. The International Committee of the Red Cross says getting prosthetic limbs has been a major challenge. It's left amputees like Mohammed Hassan and others with little treatment, rehabilitation or hope.

Israel's military has called up tens of thousands of reservists in preparation for an expected assault on Gaza City, as the Israeli government considered a new proposal for a ceasefire after nearly two years of war.
