Calls to ban Antifa have emerged in Europe following the killing of Charlie Kirk. No links between Kirk's suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, and any other left-wing groups have been made to date.

Recent online posts have claimed that the Netherlands has banned Antifa, a loosely affiliated anti-fascist movement. While the Dutch parliament did pass a motion recommending that Antifa be labelled a terrorist organisation, this motion is not legally binding and does not constitute an official ban.

The Dutch government is not required to implement parliamentary motions unless they are motions of no confidence. As such, there is currently no legal ban on Antifa in the Netherlands, and claims to the contrary are inaccurate.

Following the assassination of right-wing activist and Trump supporter Charlie Kirk, the US president said he would designate Antifa as a major terrorist organisation as part of his efforts to target the radical left. We have seen a rise in violence perpetuated by Antifa radical people across this country who subscribe to this group. No links between the suspect, Tyler Robinson, and any other left-wing groups, including Antifa, have been uncovered to date. However, following Trump's declarations, Hungary followed suit, announcing that it would also ban Antifa and urging the EU to do the same, as detailed in a letter addressed to the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaya Kalas. As for the Netherlands, online users are also claiming that the country's government has banned Antifa. Now, according to the Dutch parliament's website, a motion on labelling Antifa as a terrorist organisation in the Netherlands was passed on the 18th of September, with 76 out of 150 votes. However, motions are just recommendations rather than legally binding decisions. Although parliament can submit motions, the Netherlands government is not obliged to carry them out, unless they are a motion of no confidence.
