No matter the surge in US-led diplomacy, Russia's nightly attacks continue. European leaders and NATO military chiefs are scrambling to plan security guarantees for Ukraine. Who and what will be involved remains unclear. But with little tangible to show from the Alaska and DC summits, the US president now concedes that Russia may not even make a deal. Pressure is mounting on Europe. No matter what happens, no matter what form this takes, the Europeans are going to have to take the lion's share of the burden. It's their continent, it's their security. The US says it could be involved with possible air support, but President Trump has repeated there would be no US boots on the ground. Meanwhile, the development, testing and manufacture of new weapons in Ukraine and Russia is relentless. Most especially drones. First-person drones like these may eventually be sold to the US as part of a Kiev-proposed deal worth $50 billion. If we now just create an interceptor drone that flies after a Shahed, then tomorrow the Russians will come up with a way to dodge it. We need a bigger advantage urgently. This drone uses fiber optic technology, which means it can potentially hit targets more than 40 kilometers away. This tiny thread that you can barely see improves navigation and accuracy. Technology like this was first used by the Russians about a year after the full-scale invasion began. But drones like this are now being used and are feared by both sides because they are so difficult to stop. Fiber optic drones are currently almost impossible to jam using electronic warfare. These are new long-range cruise missiles and drones developed by a Ukrainian startup. The company says the weapons can hit targets thousands of kilometers deep inside Russia. Moscow says it must be consulted about security guarantees for Kiev. And talk by NATO countries, including UK and France, contributing to possible peacekeepers, is another red line. All the different ideas, all the unilateral moves are an absolutely hopeless venture. As the current discussions between the West and the Ukrainian side are essentially linked to providing guarantees in the form of the foreign military intervention. For now, with few signs Russia is serious about ending the war, there's one thing both the US and Europe agree on.
