And it isn't just businesses that are feeling the strain, as some people have reduced their spending. It's worrying, and it can make you change or pause your plans, like buying a place or moving. A concern shared by some economists. People's first reaction is to push back less urgent spending, like changing their washing machine or redoing their kitchen. People would rather put their money aside and wait. The second reaction is, for instance, to eat out less often. And the third is to shop at cheaper supermarkets. Across France, people's spending has already decreased over the past year.
