Passengers have reported waiting up to seven hours in security lines, with many incurring additional expenses for missed flights, food, and accommodations. The situation, described as unprecedented by both officials and travelers, has led to significant frustration and disruption for the public.

Prepare yourself for more air travel delays like this scene in Houston just this morning, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told Face The Nation, the longer the government shutdown drags on, things are likely to get worse. Well, does it become a flight emergency, a safety issue? No, we will stop traffic. So we're not gonna let that happen. I think the real consequence is, what kind of rolling delays do you have throughout the system, right? We've seen problems at LA, in Dallas, in DC, Boston, Atlanta, and so I think it's only going to get worse. CBS News reporter, Karen Hua, is at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston this morning and joins me now. So Karen, as you know, travelers are dealing with especially long lines because of the big change made this weekend. What's the latest? Hey Vlad, so we're here at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. It's the biggest airport in Houston, and this is really just a visual representation of chaos. The folks here say they've never seen this line this long ever before. We're in Terminal E. It's one of two security checkpoints that are open today. That's usually half the amount that Bush Intercontinental Airport usually has. At this part of the line, folks say they've already been waiting for about two hours. It was a line that stretched to three different sections outside past the curb. And just to give you another idea of how long this line goes, it really snakes around this entire lobby. So TSA and the folks at Bush, they believe that standard screening is gonna take about three hours right now. And all of this has been the same situation since Saturday morning, when the airport officially closed the two other terminals, leaving only two open. We spoke to several flyers who say they waited anywhere from five to seven hours yesterday in this line, only to miss their flights. Folks here today say they got here five hours early, just out of an abundance of caution. But people are paying out of pocket for missing their flights, for having to spend money on food, Ubers and hotels overnight. Take a listen at what some of them had to tell us. Frankly, it's just two people are fighting over probably political issues, and this is the victim, the public. I didn't walk past people fighting, cussing each other out. It's crazy. Yeah, so you can clearly tell there are a lot of frustrated people. Five hours is certainly a number we have not seen during any holiday rush or any other major event in the US. This is certainly, to use that word, unprecedented, as many people have put it this morning. Yeah, it certainly looks it. Karen, wow for us. Thank you, Karen, appreciate you.
