A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle while walking along a footpath in Maroubra, Sydney. Forensic teams spent several hours at the scene, where evidence such as sneakers, an empty beer bottle, and blood-stained clothing was found. 

Police are investigating whether the driver intentionally mounted the kerb to hit the teenager. A 22-year-old man has been charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was refused bail. The injured boy was taken to St Vincent's Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

One line of inquiry for police whether the driver purposefully mounted the kerb to hit the teenager. Neighbours say they heard screaming before the incident. We noticed there may be a family argument, that's all, but when we noticed that the road is blocked and then something has happened. Not long after, paramedics and police arrived at the scene. We heard the police siren and maybe they're coming in and we noticed that in the morning, early in the morning, all the barricades are there, we can't go out. The boy suffered serious leg injuries and after being treated here at the scene by paramedics, he was taken to St Vincent's Hospital. A 22-year-old has been charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail and will face paramedic court tomorrow. While the teenager tonight remains in a serious condition.
