The army also reported that shells fired from inside Rwanda struck communities in the Rwuzizi plain, resulting in civilian deaths and the destruction of infrastructure. This surge in violence comes shortly after DRC and Rwanda leaders reaffirmed a peace plan in Washington.

The pact between Felix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame followed intensive efforts by the US and other partners, including the African Union and Qatar.
