This statement follows the appointment by U.S. President Donald Trump of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy to bring Greenland under U.S. control. 

Rasmussen expressed strong disapproval of the appointment and described the envoy's mandate as unacceptable. Danish media reported that Rasmussen intends to summon the U.S. ambassador in Copenhagen for a meeting, as President Trump has previously advocated for U.S. jurisdiction over Greenland and has not ruled out the use of military force.

Danish media reported that Rasmussen later said he would summon Kenneth Howery, the US ambassador in Copenhagen, for a meeting at the ministry. Trump has repeatedly called for US jurisdiction over Greenland and has infamously not ruled out using military force to seize it.

On Monday, President Trump announced a new class of Navy battleships he's calling the "Golden Fleet." The president said two vessels will be built in the short term, with plans to expand to up to 25.
