A young delivery driver has died after his motorcycle was mangled in a multi-vehicle collision on the M4 motorway in Parramatta. Police are seeking the driver of a white ute involved in the crash.

A fatal accident occurred on the M4 motorway in Parramatta when a delivery rider, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, was struck by multiple vehicles after an initial collision with a car. The incident involved a white Kia Cerato, a Toyota, a utility vehicle, and a marked police car, with authorities confirming that the police vehicle was not responding to an emergency at the time.

Police are conducting mandatory testing for those involved and are appealing for witnesses, particularly the driver of a white utility. This is the second delivery rider death in Sydney's west within five days, prompting renewed calls for minimum safety standards for gig economy workers.

Delivery driver dead in horror crash on M4 motorway

Sprawled across four lanes of a motorway, a motorbike now a crumpled heap. It's a tragic set of circumstances for all concerned. We believe the rider to be aged in his 20s or 30s. Just before 2am, a registered 110cc Honda motorcycle with an average top speed of 70ks was travelling in a 90 zone along the M4 at Parramatta when a white Kia Cerato performed a lane change, hitting the rider, throwing him onto the road. Toyota Reco has impacted with the rider on the ground. Shortly thereafter, a utility has impacted with the wreckage nearby. And shortly thereafter, a marked police vehicle has impacted with the rider in lane one. A 20-year-old, 37-year-old and a male senior constable have undergone mandatory blood and urine testing, with police now trying to find the driver of a white utility. We are looking for witnesses to come forward that may have seen the scooter prior to the crash, may have seen the crash itself or the aftermath. Police say officers weren't on urgent duty with no lights or sirens activated, and hadn't been in pursuit of any vehicle, but were simply returning to station when the incident occurred. They were driving as normal motorists on the roadway when this set of circumstances unfolded. Exactly what's happened and how it's all come to be is part of the investigation. It's the second death of a delivery rider in Sydney's west in just five days, and it's prompted calls for minimum standards to be set for those working in the gig economy. They earn somewhere around $10 to $15 an hour at best. We need the hours of work to be addressed, we need the method of work to be addressed so that we don't have a scooter on an expressway.
